Dr. Veniamin Karakostanoglou is a Senior Lecturer on Public International Law at the Department of International Studies, Faculty of Law, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he also teaches International Relations and Greek Foreign Policy (at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels) and International Law of the Sea in the Erasmus Program.
He specializes on The Law of the Sea. His Doctoral Thesis (1998) on The Exclusive Economic Zone in the New Law of the Sea is the only comprehensive study in Greek bibliography.
His previous professional experience includes inter alia:
- Member of the Long Duration Mission of CSCE (OSCE) in Kosovo (1992-1993) with preventive diplomacy and human rights monitoring tasks.
- Regional Director of the OSCE Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina (1996), implementing Dayton Accords in Eastern Republica Srpska.
- Research Associate at the Institute for Balkan Studies of Thessaloniki (1994-2004).
- Head of the alternate Thessaloniki Seat of the Stabiltiy Pact for S.E. Europe – main seat in Brussels – (2004-2008) an international political initiative under the auspices of the European Union, coordinating various programs and projects in the framework of the stabilization and reconstruction process of Southeastern European countries, preparing their accession to the European Union.
