panagiotidisStudies and professional experience: Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (BSc in Natural Sciences, 1975) and University of Aix-Marseille II (MSc Oceanography, PhD in Marine Biology, 1980).

From 1981 to 1982, Assistant Researcher at the Hellenic Hydrographic Service (military service) and from 1983 to today Researcher at the Hellenic Center for Marine Research. Research Director since 2000.

Research field: Seagrass and algae taxonomy, biology and ecology. Benthic communities structure and function. Evaluation of eutrophication and water quality status, according to the European Directives. New methods for rapid environmental assessment.

Working languages: English, French and Greek.

Participation in marine research projects: Oceanographic study of the North Evoikos Gulf (1981-82), monitoring of marine pollution of Saronikos Gulf (1983-90), oceanographic and environmental study of the Amvrakikos Gulf (1987-89), environmental Study of the Thermaikos Gulf (1992-93), environmental Study of the Kalloni Gulf (1994-97), implementation of the Habitat Directive in Greece and mapping of 67 marine NATURA-2000 sites (1999-2001), implementation of the Water Framework Directive (2002-2008) in Greece, masterplan of aquaculture in Greece (2009) implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (2009-2016) in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
